Recruiting Intern at National Youth Advocate Program

Purpose of the position: Parent Advocate Connections is a volunteer program that matches experienced adults, as mentors, to parents who have come in contact with the child welfare system. The Recruiting Intern will provide support to the Parent Advocate Connections Coordinator to recruit new mentors for the program. The primary responsibility is to build the capabilities in the areas of sourcing and managing volunteer referral programs.

 

Responsibilities:

1.      The intern reports directly to the Parent Advocate Connections coordinator

2.      Follow NYAP policies and procedures

3.      Attend NYAP orientation before the start of the internship

4.      Keep time sheets and fill out reports requested by NYAP staff

5.      Source candidates through recruiting efforts which would include advertising, mentor job postings, internet searches, promotional events, volunteer/career fairs

6.      Create and maintain agency database

7.      Maintain records on recruiting activities as required; research, analyze, prepare and present recruiting reports as needed

8.      May participate in interviews and conduct reference and background checks

 

Time commitment:

10 hours per week

Attend three hours orientation

Attend optional mentor training and other group events  

  

Qualifications

Developed verbal and written communication skills, including phone skills and ability to communicate in a professional manner

Some knowledge of current trends and practices in recruiting

Leadership skills, ability to work independently as well as in a group setting

Tolerance and respect for individual differences

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet.

Must successfully complete a background and reference check

Must have access to transportation. If personal transportation is used, mentor must provide valid driver’s license and automobile insurance with a minimum of $100,000/300,000 coverage.
