Heart Ball Internship at American Heart Association

The American Heart Association seeks an intern to assist in day-to-day Heart Ball preparation. For this position, he or she will be required to work at least 15 hours per week from January 9 to the end of Spring Semester.  The required hours may be worked in any combination at the discretion of the intern and the supervisor so long as the schedule is determined ahead of time and any changes are discussed far enough in advance that both the intern and the supervisor are able to accommodate the schedule adjustments.  This internship position is unpaid, but will offer valuable hands-on experience in a professional business setting. 


The qualified candidate must be a college student currently enrolled in classes (preferably on a full-time basis) who is organized and detail-oriented. The intern should have an academic major in writing, English, communications or public relations, previous fund raising experience, and the desire to work in a non-profit setting with a specific focus on event implementation.  He or she must have a professional demeanor, possess strong writing skills and be willing to perform a variety of duties.  The intern must be able to juggle projects, meet tight deadlines and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs. 


He or she should be creative and have a desire to learn and grow his/her skills through meaningful involvement in the mission of the American Heart Association.  The intern will be considered an integral part of the team and, as such, his or her ideas and input will be welcomed.


Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

©     Editing and Proofreading –

                              Verify restrictions and expiration dates on auction items for Heart Ball

                              Bid Sheets for Heart Ball

                              Night of Event Program and Auction Catalog for the Heart Ball


©     Auction Management –

                              Make calls to solicit items as needed for Heart Ball

                              Make sure all items are in-hand for Heart Ball

                              Make delivery arrangements for large items for Heart Ball

                              Label items and props for Heart Ball


©     Writing –

Auction item descriptions            for Heart Ball

Night of Event program collateral


©     Clerical –

                              Copy and cut out bid paddles

                              Copy all auction certificates

                              Research for cultivation

                              Printing, stuffing, categorizing… as needed


©     Creating –

                              Table signs for Heart Ball large donors

                              Directional signage for Heart Ball

                              Prepare Table Host Packets

                              Photo slides for Heart Ball auction items

                              Heart Ball “Open Your Heart” materials including solicitation lists

                              letter templates

                              Compile campaign photos to create night of event slideshow


©     Miscellaneous –

                              Help set up for Heart Ball

                              Attend Heart Ball as event volunteer

                              Help clean up at both events

                              Help with coordinating event logistics for cultivation events, campaign

                              events on an as need basis
