Volunteer Intake Specialist at American Red Cross Blood Services Central Ohio Region

Purpose: To assist the Office of Volunteer and Community Resources (OV) build the capacity of the Central Ohio Blood Region in the Franklin County area by in-taking new volunteer candidates. Key responsibilities: ·         Serve as a point of contact for prospective volunteers interested in volunteer opportunities in the Franklin County area for the American Red Cross Blood Services Central Ohio Region (ARCBSCOR).·         Conduct basic phone screening for prospective volunteer inquiries ·         Complete reference checks for volunteer applicants. ·         Maintain volunteer records through data entry and OV file management system. ·         Schedule appropriate volunteer prospects for an initial informational interview utilizing established structure created by OV.·         Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills and basic computer skills to explain, correctly document, and guide volunteer candidates through the OV intake process.·         Answer volunteer candidate questions and positively represent OV and/or American Red Cross policies and procedures. Time Commitment: ·         Must complete at least 8-10 hours weekly. Shift hours are mutually agreed upon, usually between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00PM.   Relationships: ·         Close interaction with other paid staff and volunteers.  Support could be provided to a variety of departments.  Qualifications: ·         Excellent interpersonal skills.·         Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.·         Basic computer skills and general knowledge of the internet·         Ability to work independently  ·         Ability to work with diverse populations·         Professional personal appearance and demeanor·         Proven track record of executing good judgment and ethical behavior·         Dependability and flexibility Required Training: Orientation provided by the Office of Volunteers and specific task training by supervisor in department Benefits·         Gain valuable experience in the fields of Volunteer Administration and Human Resources·         Develop prescreening and staff intake skills ·         Earn documented service hours·         Engage in resume building experiences·         Take on leadership responsibilities ·         Meet new people/network with other professionals
