We are currently seeking candidates for a WorldCat Quality Control Intern position. The work location for the assignment will be the OCLC Corporate Headquarters in Dublin (Columbus), Ohio. This internship would be ideal for someone who is pursuing an MLS degree or who wants to pursue an MLS degree and become a librarian. A person who wants to become a cataloger in a library will gain the most from this position.
Duration of assignment: March 1, 2012 to June 30, 2012
Work hours: 20-40 hours per wk
Responsibilities:
· Responding to OCLC member requests to correct records in WorldCat (including typos, MARC coding, incorrect format of records, incorrect form of names) and making corrections
· Proactively identifying incorrect subject or name headings or other types of errors in WorldCat and employing macros and other tools to correct large quantities of records
· Learning to use Connexion Client software to search for and edit records in WorldCat
· Learning to correctly apply MARC tagging to records in WorldCat
Qualifications:
· Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate school
· Accuracy and attention to detail
· Familiarity with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
· Familiarity with MARC formats and coursework in cataloging is a plus
