Afterschool Tutoring Internships Available at Homeport

Through its activities, Homeport is a partner in building communities and enhancing the lives of residents. Homeport is currently looking for a number of Interns to work within our After School program as tutors and mentors. Our program runs daily from 3:00 – 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Interns would be working in partnership with AmeriCorps staff, volunteers and other interns to run this program on a daily basis. Tutors will work with children aged 5-13 to assist with homework help, studying, meeting required reading areas, and creating and implementing various education activities throughout the week.  Interns have the opportunity to set a weekly schedule that best suites them, however are asked to commit to an ongoing schedule for consistency purposes for the children as well as for the site staff to be able to prepare accordingly. Programming will run through the end of the school year, which will be around the end of May. Background checks must be completed on all interns prior to beginning their assignment. Transportation is required and all interns must show up consistently and be prepared to work.  This is a great opportunity for Education or Social Work majors, or anyone who enjoys working with children. This is a great chance to be creative, be a mentor, and help a child become successful in the classroom!
