Retail store intern at Ohio Historical Society

Are you looking to gain some practical experience in the retail industry as well as non-profit world?  The Ohio Historical Society has an immediate opening in our retail department just for you.  As the Event Intern, you will be assisting in the coordinating, merchandising, and day-to-day operations of retail stores at both Ohio Historical Center and the Ohio Village..  Position requires weekends, evening holiday work.   Essential Duties IncludeStore Operations·         Analyze and measure business trends; develop and implement plans to maximize sales and meet or exceed goals and objectives.·         Ensure appropriate merchandise stock levels, merchandise adjacencies and presentations; signing; and ensure selling floor is adequately stocked. ·         Coordinate retail events such as Book Signing Sales, Ohio Artisan sales, and Village General Store Events.·         Assists with the Ohio History Store online operation.·         Maintain retail customer and vendor database..Merchandising/Product Development·         Assist buyer with researching, selecting and ordering inventory and selling merchandise items.  ·         Coordinate and communicate inventory and merchandising needs to buyer and act as liaison with store personnel. Education: Preferred Junior-level college student, but not required. At least two years of retail, merchandising or related field is required. Four years is preferred. Language Skills: Ability to communicate and work effectively both orally and in writing.Mathematical Skills:Requires ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistics and probability and to apply such concepts.Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. An ability to independently problem solve, switch quickly from task to task, and an ability resolve customer complaints in a cordial and respectful manner is beneficial.

 This position is a part-time 15-20 hours per week and a stipend will be paid after the completion of 200 hours. One semester or a two quarter minimum is requested.  This position is rolling. The Ohio Historical Society is located at I-71 and 17th Ave, at Exit 111 by the Columbus Expo and Fairgrounds approximately 4 miles north of downtown Columbus. Please send a resume and cover letter to Jim Riley at jriley@ohiohistory.org.
